One day, reclusive Virgil Manoven follows his runaway cat into the woods and stumbles across what appears to be a crime in progress. Hiding in the woods, he follows a man and a girl as they struggle to bury something in the soft earth. Did he witness a murder? After an extensive search, the police fail to find any evidence of foul play, and Virgil is forced to investigate the mystery himself. The search for the truth leads to an inescapable fate. Soft for Digging will scare the hell out of you.

21 year-old JT Petty had an amazing life-changing year and is now living the dream of every struggling independent filmmaker. Petty’s debut feature film initially beat the odds when it was selected (from thousands of submissions) for the Sundance Film Festival. After the premiere, appreciative programmers from across the globe started to call, and Soft for Digging started its international journey – screening in Australia, Holland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, Brazil, Canada, England and others.

The international acclaim bestowed on Petty’s visionary horror film is certainly deserved, even more so when one considers that it was a student project to fulfill requirements for his NYU thesis. He shot the 16mm film and had it ‘in the can’ with a reported final budget of $6,000. Not surprisingly, his frugal effort was well-rewarded. Petty recently completed post-production on Mimic Sentinel - coming soon to a theater near you.

Warning: This film contains a tremendously creepy little girl

Playing at:  The Egyptian Theatre, Friday, March 7th, 9:15 PM
