Earthling

Our Closing Night Gala film, Earthling is the breathtaking ‘true’ story of the Earthling renowned Wyoming-based wildlife cinematographer Wolfgang Bayer's last wildlife film shoot – as seen by the filmmaker's wayward son.

Directed and narrated by burgeoning cinematographer Tristan Bayer; this fascinating hybrid of narrative and documentary film details his father's questionable (and sometimes disturbing) obsession with filming animals in the untamed wilderness. Join the Bayer family as they lead us on a walk on the wild side.

They embark on a worldwide journey to meet Wolfgang's favorite alien creatures in their breathtaking environments - and the camera’s unblinking eye records everything. On their global odyssey they encounter; whales in the open ocean, orangutans in the rainforest, toxic lakes filled with marooned jellyfish, Earthlingice flats scoured by polar bears, the eerie underwater grace of manta rays, the shifting ice sculptures of the far North, and the sky darkening with the migration of Monarch butterflies.

Tristan quickly learns the ropes from his father, and the film details the young artist as he gradually forges his own style of wildlife filmmaking with unique, visual storytelling. The result is a startlingly beautiful film.

Don’t miss it.
